A Lynn construction site accident injured four, sending one worker to the hospital on a medflight with serious injuries, the morning of May 24.
Approximately 20 workers were in a pit at the site of a new apartment complex at 8:30 AM when reinforcing steel, known as rebar, came loose as it was lowered into the pit by a crane. The rebar struck several workers, pinning one against the wall of the structure.
First responders used a mechancical saw to free the trapped worker, who they said had very serious injuries. The worker was airlifted from the Munroe Street construction site to a Boston hospital, according to Lynn police.
The other three workers suffered minor injuries and were able to free themselves. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is on the scene to investigate the accident.
This is the second construction site accident this spring involving falling materials. On February 28, two workers were hurt and one was killed when support jacks fell onto them from an upper floor at an MIT dormitory under construction.
