The town of Revere was shaken on Tuesday afternoon by the fatal fall of a construction worker from the top of a three story story apartment building that was undergoing renovations

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene on Payson Street and rushed the man to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. District Attorney Kevin Hayden confirmed that the cause of death is suspected to be accidental in a statement to the press: “This appears to be a tragic workplace accident. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends and to all of those who witnessed the incident.”

The investigation by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is ongoing. The site is currently under a cease-and-desist order from the town of Revere, halting work on the building until further notice.

The identity of the worker has yet to be released, pending notification of his next-of-kin. According to his colleagues, the man had recently moved to Revere from El Salvador and this was his first day on the job.

The entire Sheff and Cook team extends our own heartfelt condolences to this man’s family, friends, and community. We hope for a speedy and decisive resolution to the investigation of the accident so that any negligent parties may be held accountable for this tragedy.
