A local family is mourning the loss of a beloved father after he plunged two to three stories while working at a construction site in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

According to emergency responders, Manuel Chuqui fell from the scaffolding he was working on at a building at 7 Weld Hill Street sometime before 3 pm on Thursday, September 24th. Lifesaving care was attempted at the scene, but Mr. Chuqui later died from his injuries.

Officials are currently investigating whether the strong winds gusting in the area were a factor in this heartbreaking accident. A collapsed ladder hanging from a window can be seen in news footage. 

Fatal falls at construction sites are becoming far too common. If there is any question of gusting winds posing a safety hazard, appropriate measures must be taken to protect employees. Mr. Chuqui was a dedicated family man, hard-working colleague, and integral part of his community. His loss is a tragic reminder that no one should report to their job site only to have to suffer through catastrophic injuries.
