A drunk driver may have been traveling at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour before a fatal accident on I-95 South in the early morning hours after St. Patrick’s Day, according to a report in The Boston Herald.
Massachusetts State Police say Michael Spinale, of Roslindale, had been drinking at Fanueil Hall before speeding to his girlfriend’s house. Just after 1 AM, his car slammed into the rear of a Brockton taxi, killing Kailash Bolar of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The force of the impact pushed the taxi out of the center lane and into the breakdown lane.
Police arrived to find Spinale yelling, “You just stoped, why did you stop?” at the taxi driver. The driver said he was traveling at a speed of 75 to 80 miles per hour in the center lane at the time of the accident. When police asked Spinale if he had been drinking, court documents say he replied, “of course…it’s St. Patrick’s Day.”
The dangers of drunk driving accidents increase late at night, when roads have less traffic. The real tragedy occurs when people do the right thing only to find themselves in the path of a driver who is behaving recklessly.
