According to The Boston Globe, attorney Douglas K. Sheff said at a news conference in Boston the Pats can become “champions of justice” by making the payment since Hernandez was ruled legally responsible for Lloyd’s shooting death in 2013.

The only issue outstanding in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by the Lloyd family, Sheff said, is how much the family will recover from the Hernandez’s estate in the wake of his suicide earlier this week. Hernandez was serving life without parole for murdering Lloyd.
